Description
The Cree XLamp® XP-E LED increases upon the proven technology from the XR-E line; Cree has reduced the space between the die, inside a package with an 80 percent smaller footprint and 69 percent more flux than the XR-E.
LED Star MCPCB
We offer the XP-E in two metal core printed circuit board (MCPCB) versions: a single (1-Up: 1 LED) and triple (3-Up: 3 LEDs). The 1-Up is a single XP-E LED reflow soldered to a 20mm hexagonal (LED Star) MCPCB. The MCPCB has four large solder pads for easy solder connections. The 3-Up is three (3) XP-E LEDs reflow soldered in-series to a 20mm hexagonal MCPCB. The 3-Up MCPCB has two solder pads for connections, mounting holes for secondary Carclo optics and a center hole for wires or securing the LED star to a heat sink.
Colors
The XP-E LED is offered here in Far Red & Photo Red. The XP-E has been superseded by the XP-E2, and is limited in production. We continue to list the item for reference and in this case because some XP-E LEDs are still available.
Secondary Optics
Both versions (1-Up & 3-Up) of the XP-E are designed to work with secondary optics from Carclo; Carclo is a leader in molded poly-carbonate lens systems. The 1-Up secondary lens system combines a plastic holder and lens that sits on top of the 1-Up MCPCB, while the 3-Up optic is a one-piece system with three legs that sit down into corresponding holes on the 3-Up MCPCB. These secondary optics focus light into narrow, medium, wide and elliptical patterns. More information is available on optics that mate with the XP-E LED on this page under the Accessories tab above.
Images, Part Numbers & Notes
Selecting the LED options near the 'add to cart' button to see the corresponding product image and part number. For referencing detailed specifications there are tables and downloadable documentation below. Important Note: Unless noted otherwise the specifications list are for a single XP-E LED. This means that in most cases the values need to be tripled for applications with the 3-Up version. For Example, if the forward voltage listed is 2.95V @ 350mA, then the 3-Up version would be 8.85V.

Technical Documentation
Notes for Table
- Cree maintains a tolerance of +/- 7% on flux and power measurements.
- Typical CRI for Cool White & Neutral White (3,700 K â€" 10,000 K CCT) is 75.
- Typical CRI for Outdoor White (4,000 K - 5,300 K CCT) is 70.
- Typical CRI for Warm White (2,600 K â€" 3,700 K CCT) is 80.
- Cree maintains a tolerance of +/- 7% on flux and power measurements.
Notes for Table
- The increase of maximum forward current to 1000 mA for XLamp XP-E White is retroactive and applies to all XLamp XP-E White LEDs produced by Cree. This increase is the result of more extensive testing that was performed after the initial product launch.
Important Information
Average Lumen Maintenance Characteristics Based on internal long-term reliability testing, Cree projects royal blue, blue, green and white XLamp XP-E LEDs to maintain an average of 70% lumen maintenance after 50,000 hours, provided the LED junction temperature is maintained at or below 135°C and the LED is operated with a constant current of up to 700 mA.
Cree currently recommends a maximum drive current of 700 mA for XLamp XP-E white in designs seeking the ENERGY STAR* 35,000 hour lifetime rating (≥ 94.1% luminous flux @ 6000 hours) or 25,000 hour lifetime rating (≥ 91.8% luminous flux @ 6000 hours).
Please read the XLamp Long-Term Lumen Maintenance application note for more details on Cree’s lumen maintenance testing and forecasting. Please read the XLamp Thermal Management application note for details on how thermal design, ambient temperature, and drive current affect the LED junction temperature.
* These lifetime ratings are based on the current ENERGY STAR Solid State Lighting Luminaires V1.1 (December 12, 2008) and ENERGY STAR Integral LED Lamps V1.0 (December 3, 2009) lumen maintenance criteria.
