But recently, we’ve been exploring generic screw-in style bulbs, particularly smart bulbs that are attempting to compete with big-name brands like Philips Hue. After hours of testing, we finally found one that meets our standards—and one we’d personally buy.
Let’s jump straight to the fun part—trust us, setting up this smart bulb is a breeze (we’ll cover that in a bit). But first, let’s dive into what really sets this bulb apart:

- White and Color: As expected, you can adjust the color, color temperature, and brightness to suit your mood or needs—whether you want a bright, crisp white for working, a soft, warm glow for relaxing, or one of 16 million vibrant colors to set the perfect atmosphere.
- Scene: This section offers preset lighting modes tailored to common activities like Reading, Writing, Working, Leisure, or even a “Colorful” mode that shifts through vibrant hues. Each scene is editable, so you can fine-tune the effects to fit your preferences perfectly.
- Music Sync: This feature actually works impressively well. Using your phone’s microphone, the bulb syncs with the beat of any music or sound, adjusting its brightness and colors to match the rhythm and intensity. It’s perfect for parties, impressing your kids, or simply enhancing your favorite playlist.
But wait, there’s MORE:
For those who love to tinker and go beyond the basics, you’ll want to check out the More option in the app; this is where we spent the majority of our time. It’s located in the bottom-right corner and opens up four additional features:
- Plan
- Schedule
- Biorhythm
- Power-On Behavior
Power-On behavior and Schedule are pretty straightforward. You can set how the bulb behaves after turning it on and schedule specific times for it to turn on and off automatically.
The real magic is in “Plan” & “Biorhythm”
- Plan allows you to set custom Sleep and Wake routines. You can create a gentle ramp-up or ramp-down of the light over a period ranging from 5 minutes to 2 hours—perfect for mimicking natural sunrise and sunset patterns. There are also options for Random and Cycle Timing, though we didn’t dive into those as much.
- Biorhythm is like an enhanced “all-day” version of the sleep/wake routine, designed to keep your lighting in sync with your natural circadian rhythm. In contrast to the sleep/wake-up options in “Plan”, Biorhythm allows the transition of brightness AND color temperature. So, your light can be set to warm-white in the morning and gradually increase in brightness and naturally get more cool-white. The default setting starts at 6:30 AM, where the light is at a soothing 20% brightness with a warm-white tone. By 10:30 AM, it gradually brightens to 100% and shifts to a cooler white for a more energetic feel. In the afternoon, it settles to 80%, and by 11 PM, the bulb dims down to 5% with a warm, calming glow, reducing blue light exposure to help you wind down. It’s not just a fun gimmick—this control over light can help regulate your body’s natural rhythm, improving sleep and well-being. Plus, it’s something that simply wasn’t possible before the LED revolution. Details: Many changes to the light can be added, however the time between each function must be at least 30–minutes.
Here are screenshots from the Biorhythm section of the app. The circle displays the four rhythms with their corresponding icons, and below that, you’ll find the days of the week for customized scheduling. You can adjust the time by sliding the icons or manually edit them as needed, as shown in the additional screenshots.
Hands free living – One use and you’ll never look back
Many of you already use voice-activated home assistants like Google Home and Amazon Alexa. We easily connected this bulb with Google Home and used voice commands to control it effortlessly. Whether we specified color temperatures in kelvins (e.g., 2700K) or by name (Warm White), or requested colors like Cyan and Pink, everything worked flawlessly.

Set-Up, As Promised:
- Download the app. We tested this bulb with the Smart Life App (QR code on the box), but it will also work with the Tuya App (smart home “everything app” QR code on the right). Pro Tip: All our tests were performed “as a GUEST”, we did not create an account with the app.
- Once the app is downloaded, you’ll want to get the bulb into “pairing mode” by switching the bulb on/off at least 3 times in a row. You’ll know it’s in pairing mode when the bulb flashes.
- Now you can open the app and “add a device”, once the app finds the device you’ll need to have your wifi password ready and follow the typical app prompts. We did not allow Notifications from the app, but did approve the other prompts, which are required for certain bulb features to work.
